Shouted over muddy earth (2021)

Shouted over muddy earth is a song cycle written for Duo Cortona (Rachel Calloway and Ari Streisfeld) built on the poetry of Steve Scafidi. The six movements are based on six poems from Scafidi's 2014 Lincoln-centered book of poetry titled To the Bramble and the Briar, "a magical biography that renders the development of Abraham Lincoln’s vision in all of its clumsiness and beauty. We see Lincoln as unromanticized, deeply human."
